The Helen Doron History

Early in her teaching career it became clear to British-born linguist Helen Doron that mother-tongue level language acquisition is actually achieved through understanding and speaking, and that EFL and ESL teaching methods and materials need to reflect this fact.

Based on this insight, Helen went on to create her own unique learning system, offering children a fun, lively learning environment to stimulate their emotional, physical, creative and intellectual wellbeing. Helen was well qualified for the task, with an MA in Linguistic Science, and experience as an English lecturer at Poitiers University, France.

In 1985, she set about creating her own materials and teaching children ages 1 – 6 to understand and speak English. Based on her tremendous success, in 1987, she created more professional materials and started training others in her exclusive methodology — teaching children English the same way they learn their mother tongue. The Helen Doron method caught on fast, and within a short time, the original network of specially trained teachers grew into a vibrant international franchise operation.

In 2001, the Helen Doron Educational Group turned its sights towards branching out to answer even broader educational needs of children in various learning environments and through a variety of different disciplines. Our current educational products include Helen Doron Early English for inspired learning in small groups, MathRiders, expert math tutoring programs in small groups, Polly the Collie and Super-Nature, designed for English learning larger groups (kindergartens and schools respectively), and Ready Steady Move! a unique movement with language program for larger groups and afternoon classes. New products are always in development at Helen Doron.
